Which workflow fits?

Start with your delivery target. For a new web application with a product-focused prompt workflow, investigate Lovable. If framework choice or an Expo mobile prototype is central, investigate Bolt. These are workflow-based shortlisting suggestions, not measured performance results.

Lovable vs Bolt: workflow and ownership comparison
Decision factorLovableBolt
WorkflowPrompt-led web development with editable code.Combine prompting with a browser code view and framework choices.
BackendManaged backend, database and authentication are documented.Bolt Cloud provides a managed backend path; evaluate the database and hosting requirements for your app.
Source controlGitHub sync for projects created in Lovable; existing repository import is not supported by that integration.A GitHub integration is documented; validate your repository and branch workflow before committing.
Worth investigating forStarting a new web app from a product description, then handing its code to a developer.Exploring JavaScript frameworks or a mobile prototype using the documented Expo workflow.
Watch out forImporting an existing GitHub repository: the documented GitHub connection starts with a Lovable project.A project that requires a non-JavaScript backend to run inside the builder; validate the runtime before moving it.
Cost checksCredit-based plans; verify generation credits and hosting costs separately.Token and hosting allowances need to be checked against expected build and production usage.

A practical decision scenario

You want to validate a customer portal today and have a developer maintain it next month. Before paying, generate one customer screen, connect a repository and ask the developer to run it independently. If a mobile client is also required, separately test the Bolt Expo path instead of treating a responsive website as a native app.

Run these checks before paying

  1. Create and edit one customer record after signing in, then confirm another user cannot access it.
  2. Clone the generated code and run the documented setup from a clean environment.
  3. Make the same layout correction twice and record how much of the build allowance it consumes.

A simpler initial workflow can reduce setup decisions, while more framework control can introduce more troubleshooting. Neither guarantees a maintainable application. Judge the code and recovery workflow using your own acceptance test.
